Hi All and Welcome!
I'm Ashlee.
In January of 2012, my husband bought me my first DSLR camera, and a 50mm lens. A year later, I am still overwhelmed with thankfulness.
Once I had my camera in my hands, I immediately began practicing on whatever I could - trees, water bottles, food, and eventually people. A month later, our firstborn, Ralphie, joined our family, and he quickly became my guinea pig. (Poor firstborns!) It didn't start out like a piece of cake. I remember more than one night, being ready to chuck the whole thing against a wall and call it quits. I'm thankful for friends who pushed me to stick with it. But eventually, it clicked. ;)

It's been a fun and crazy year, learning my camera and the ins and outs of photography.
I've searched Google high and low, and read page after page. I've listened to online classes on lighting, posing, editing, settings and anything else I could. Then, I started asking friends to be my guinea pigs, too. I was floored with the response, and with just one Facebook status update I was able to photograph five different families!
To say this has all been fun would be an understatement, because fun doesn't encompass all that I've experienced in this past year. Yes, I've had fun taking pictures, meeting new people, and finding beauty in ordinary life. I hope this will always be fun for me. But, this has been a year of learning. It's been a year of learning how to see the beauty in each person, of learning to enjoy and appreciate differences, of learning to be persistent and never give up. A year of learning to overcome fears and accept grace.
I'm honored to be at this point. I'm excited. I'm a little scared.
This blog will serve as a temporary site until a more official one is put up in the near future. I'll post some old favorites, maybe some personals, and anything new that comes my way.
Few more things:
99.9% of the time I shoot in manual mode. I use natural light, as much as possible.
I daydream of others lenses, and hope to have more soon, but the 50mm was my first love, and I think it always will be my favorite.
My camera body is a trusty Canon Rebel Xsi. Nothing fancy, but it can certainly gets the job done.
